The Spartakiada was a monumental physical education and social event in socialist Czechoslovakia, held regularly between 1955 and 1985. These mass gymnastic shows, inspired by Sokol rallies, represented the pinnacle of organized physical education and served as a powerful tool of political propaganda. Hundreds of thousands of gymnasts of all ages performed complex synchronized routines at the Strahov Stadium in Prague, demonstrating the strength, unity and discipline of socialist society. Spartakiads were not only a sporting event, but also an important cultural and political phenomenon of their time.
